What is MSME Registration?
MSME Registration is the process through which an eligible enterprise obtains recognition under India’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises framework. The current registration system is known as Udyam Registration, administered through the Ministry of MSME’s official portal.
What is Udyam Registration?
Udyam Registration is the government registration system for eligible Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. After successful registration, an enterprise receives a permanent Udyam Registration Number and an online Udyam Registration Certificate.
Is MSME Registration and Udyam Registration the same?
In current usage, MSME registration generally refers to Udyam Registration, which replaced the earlier Udyog Aadhaar registration framework. Enterprises with older UAM registrations were required to re-register under Udyam.
Who can apply for MSME/Udyam Registration?
Eligible enterprises operating as proprietorships, partnerships, companies, LLPs, cooperative societies, societies, trusts, and other applicable entities can register under the Udyam framework, subject to the applicable criteria.

From 1 April 2025, the applicable classification uses both investment and annual turnover criteria:
